I’m On Social Media-Now What?

It is without a doubt that if you have a business, you need to have a presence on social media.  But, what can a small business do when there are more things to do than there are hours in the day? In this world of technology, it is be found or be forgotten.  Many business owners have set up social media sites only to let them go weeks and months without activity. Social media is about connections and engagement. When connections and engagement are overlooked, then your business just disappears in the mix. So, you have set up your sites and you are on social media–but you have not actually worked your strategy. So, the question is–I am on social media–now what?

5 Tips to Working Your Social Media

  1. Pick the platforms that work for you and delete the others. You don’t have to be on all sites. Pick 2-3 and work those sites on a consistent basis.
  2. Don’t just promote and sell. Social media is about connecting and engaging. Give valuable information to your followers and you won’t have to promote and just sell–your content will do it for you.  Instead of just marketing yourself– focus on giving your followers some good information to help them with their lives.
  3. Don’t do the “one size fits all” type of posts. Sometimes, you can post the same information to different sites. But, as a rule, you should post different information to your different sites. If you do too much posting the same information to all of your sites, you will eventually lose the interest of your followers.
  4. Try different strategies on your social media. You can offer contests, post questions, add videos and more. Mix up your social media posts with ways for people to engage.
  5. Have a plan or outcome in mind for your social media campaign.  What do you want your social media to do for you? If you know what your goals are, then you can manage your social sites better.

Developing a social media marketing campaign can be daunting with all of our other responsibilities. However, it can be beneficial. It is important to set aside some time to work your sites. Make a plan ahead of time laying out when you will devote time to your strategies. If you devote just 4 hours a week to social media, you will be able to increase your brand awareness online.
